One-touch controls done right

One-touch controls done right

July 14, 2026 · Lukas Brandt

The best mobile games understand you're probably holding a coffee in the other hand. One-touch controls aren't a limitation — they're a design challenge, and when a studio nails it the result feels almost magical.

Neon Drift League is my current favorite example. Drifting is a single tap, but the timing has real depth. It proves you can build a whole skill ceiling on one button if you respect the player.

The failures are just as instructive. When a game demands two thumbs and precise swipes on a small screen, I usually bounce off within a day. Precision needs room, and a phone rarely gives it.

My rule of thumb: if I can't play it comfortably on a crowded train, it probably wasn't made for mobile in the first place.
