Slow games for winding down at night

Slow games for winding down at night

June 29, 2026 · Lukas Brandt

There's a whole category of games I only play right before sleep. No timers, no failure screens, no notifications begging me back. Just something quiet to hold my attention while the day settles.

Lantern Hollow is the one I keep returning to. Wandering a hand-drawn forest with a lantern, finding a hidden clearing, hearing a tune shift — it asks nothing and gives a lot.

I've noticed these games share a few traits: soft sound design, no punishment for stopping, and visuals that are pleasant rather than loud. They treat your evening gently.

If your phone games leave you more wired than relaxed, swap one out for something slow. It changed how I feel about playing before bed.
